New CEO for MCM!

February was a monumental month for Monte Christo Miqlat (MCM)! After a four month selection process MCM has named a new CEO in Aletia Grundling. The journey actually began in September, 2011, when former CEO, Gary Helling, announced that he and his wife would be returning to America on a more permanent basis in March 2012. Two hundred and fifty CV’s (resumes) and 13 interviews later, the ministry finally concluded that they had the best candidate already in their midst.

Aletia is a 4 year veteran with MCM, having joined the organization in 2008 when MCM merged with Jepsa Bakery. Jepsa (Jesus Peace South Africa) was launched by Aletia and her husband Ockie in 2000 as a poverty transformation project. By joining with MCM, Aletia realized her dream of expanding the food production capabilities and having the opportunity to make an impact on the food and nutrition needs of the most vulnerable beneficiaries…the children in the Drakenstein Valley. In the last 4 years she has led our growing Community Nutrition ministry, which served over a million meals in 2011. The vision of this ministry is “No Child Goes to Bed Hungry” and her team has gone a long way towards meeting that goal under her leadership.

Having grown up in Paarl, and spending most of her life here, Aletia has a real passion for all of the people in the Drakenstein Valley. Says Aletia, “my family and I are so happy that we can give more to the community. I think the biggest adjustment for me will be the authority that I now carry.” She plans to continue with one of the biggest strategic goals of the ministry for 2012… partnering. By partnering with other ‘like’ organizations, we can achieve more integrated sustainable development by addressing many of the differing needs within the community.”

The entire staff and Board of Directors of MCM are thrilled that the promotion ultimately came from within. And for the first time in its history, MCM will be 100% South African managed and staffed…another big goal that has now been achieved.
